What Aid Pioneers e.V. stands for

Aid Pioneers aims to tackle distribution inequality by making resources that we have in abundance and cannot make us of available in crisis areas where they can change the lives of many. Since our inception, we have used flights that were not fully booked to fly donations as extra luggage and free space on cargo planes to send donations as air freight. We also transport larger volumes of donations by truck. For example, in September 2021 we brought a cone beam tomograph, a ventilator, a defibrillator and 39 hospital beds to Lebanon, among other things. Due to various regulations, this medical equipment could no longer be used in Germany, although it was still fully functional. We have made it our goal to create logistics solutions so that such devices need not be thrown away and can continue to be used in crisis areas. That way, we were able to bring 13 tonnes of disinfectant to the Moria refugee camp on Lesbos in January 2021, at the height of the Corona pandemic, before the disinfectant would have been destroyed due to high storage costs.
Aid Pioneers also sees itself as a platform and partner for many other NGOs. We not only provide other NGOs with our logistics solutions, but also help them conceptually to make their projects even more efficient and impactful. Since June 2021, for example, we have been supporting an organisation in Sierra Leone that produces reusable menstrual underwear for young girls so that they can go to school permanently. As the organisation was no longer able to maintain their production due to supply chain problems and thus the income of 18 Sierra Leonean seamstresses was also at risk, Aid Pioneers helped to raise 40,000 USD to buy 2.3t of flannel with this budget and bring it from Turkey via Brussels to Freetown. In this way, 12,600 menstrual kits can now be produced, bringing as many girls back to their classrooms for the next three years.
